About the role

The Business Development Manager (BDM) plays a key role in driving growth by identifying and securing new business opportunities for Knowledge Shop, TaxBanter and Accurium. This is a proactive, front-line sales position focused on building strong client relationships and expanding our customer base. In addition to new business acquisition, the BDM collaborates closely with the broader team to shape targeted marketing campaigns and contribute to strategic initiatives that generate high-quality leads and support sustainable growth. This is a 6-month fixed term contract with the potential opportunity to go permanent.

 

Key Responsibilities

Client acquisition

  • Achieve agreed sales targets and contribute to overall revenue growth objectives
  • Proactively leverage HubSpot to identify, track, and convert new business opportunities
  • Support the growth and market presence of the company’s products and services through active promotion and client engagement
  • Collaborate with team members, sharing insights and contributing to broader business development strategies
  • Maintain a strong understanding of market trends, customer needs, and competitive activity
  • Build and nurture strong relationships, acting as a trusted first point of contact for clients and prospects
  • Effectively manage and maintain the sales pipeline, ensuring accurate and up-to-date CRM data
  • Respond to client and prospect enquiries in a timely and professional manner
  • Consistently follow up on leads to maximise conversion opportunities
  • Actively engage with marketing initiatives to generate and progress new business opportunities

Marketing and events interaction

Work collaboratively with the marketing and events team to:

  • Achieve or exceed sales targets through aligned campaigns and initiatives
  • Increase brand awareness and visibility of the company’s training product portfolio
  • Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of marketing campaigns, events, and lead generation strategies

Event participation

  • Attend Sydney based Company events where the opportunity warrants it.
  • Attend other relevant Company interstate events as required.
  • Build rapport with members and identify opportunities for new acquisitions.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Proficiency in Hubspot Sales Workspace, building and closing pipeline through forecasting
  • Proven track record in sales or business development, with a strong focus on new business acquisition and revenue growth
  • Confident communicator with strong negotiation and relationship-building skills across all levels of an organisation
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to contribute to go-to-market planning and lead generation initiatives
  • Experience working collaboratively with marketing and cross-functional teams to drive pipeline growth
  • Results-driven, self-motivated, and comfortable working in a target-oriented environment
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to understand client needs and deliver tailored solutions
  • Effective time management and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple prospects and priorities
  • Proficiency in appointment setting useful.

Key Responsibilities

Business leadership & growth

  • Build and lead a high-quality salaried financial planning business, delivering compliant, client-centric advice and strong commercial outcomes
  • Materially grow revenue and profitability across the Count Wealth business
  • Identify and foster opportunities to attract new clients and develop strategic referral partnerships
  • Drive efficiency, scalability and profitability through process, technology and service model improvements
  • Act as a Responsible Manager on the Australian financial services licence
  • Represent the advice business in internal forums, projects and change initiatives

People & adviser development

  • Build and lead a high-performing leadership team to manage the Count employed advice channel
  • Set clear performance expectations and provide ongoing feedback, coaching and mentoring
  • Conduct performance reviews, manage capability uplift plans and support adviser career pathways
  • Lead recruitment, onboarding and development of new advisers, including Professional Year candidates
  • Develop and lead a Professional Year program to attract and pipeline future financial advisers
  • Ensure all advisers maintain required education, CPD and accreditation standards

Risk, compliance & governance

  • Work closely with Risk, Compliance and Technical teams to address advice issues, incidents and regulatory change
  • Embed Count's quality and advice standards across the employed advice channel
  • Partner with Legal, Risk and Governance teams to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance

 

Key Skills and Experience

  • 10+ years' experience leading high-quality financial planning businesses
  • Deep knowledge of financial advice regulation, compliance and governance
  • Strong commercial acumen balanced with a commitment to advice quality
  • Proven ability to lead teams through regulatory and organisational change
  • Exceptional coaching, communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in financial planning, finance or commerce
  • Experience with advice technology platforms such as Xplan (desirable)

About the role 

Senior Tax Trainers are responsible for the delivery of technical taxation seminars and interactive workshops, either face to face or online, to a diverse range of clients across a broad geographical area.

Key responsibilities 

Delivery of training: 

  • Delivery of training to clients at the time and location as directed by the training operations scheduling system.  
  • Ensure punctual attendance at scheduled training sessions.
  • Arrange reasonable transport, accommodation and sustenance for attending sessions outside the trainer’s state, territory or region. Travel expenses incurred must comply with the Travel Reimbursement policy.
  • Ensure that all equipment necessary to perform the training is available.
  • Be adaptive to an environment that is constantly changing with the advancement of technology, competitive environment and client preferences. 

Maintenance of technical skills and knowledge: 

  • Attend and participate in TaxBanter’s internal team and technical meetings.
  • Maintain technical tax skills through professional development and own research.
  • Maintain an awareness of current training best practice and instructional design principles and training technologies. 

Other projects: 

  • Assist in product development as directed.
  • Participate in other projects as directed.
  • Carry on other duties as directed.   

Desired Qualifications and Experience 

Essential: 

  • A minimum of five years of experience in a specialist tax role.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a discipline relevant to taxation, such as LLB, BCom. 

Desired:

  • A post graduate qualification in a discipline relevant to taxation, such as LLM, MTax.
  • Previous experience in a training or coaching role.
  • Previous exposure to the following kay areas of tax -
  • PSI
  • Division 7A
  • CGT Small business concessions
  • Taxation of trusts (including s. 100A)
  • Main residence exemption
  • Residency
  • Taxation of Super funds (not SIS Act/Regs)
  • GST
  • FBT
